Thread: Misfires in recent Barnard S actions?

Wondering if anyone here has a relatively recent Barnard S or SM action that is prone to misfiring? Reason I ask is two of my clubmates have new target rifles with these actions and both last Sunday had a few misfires. It is nothing to do with poor loading technique/new batch of primers/.. I was scoring for both and the strikes when the pin dropped sounded very weak.

My own S-actioned rifle has always been perfect in this regard so I'm suspecting the new ones might have rather weak main springs.

I would be talking with Barnard First.
My SM mag feed has never missed a beat.

Did they tighten up the spring cap after setting the firing pin.
I know I undo mine, release the firing pin tension when I get home each time.

The actions are as they were delivered by the gunsmith after building so I'd be surprised if the caps had been backed off. Will get them to check.

I have had that problem with a P action and it was the bolt cap backing off a little over time.
