newbie - sighting in

Kia ora all! I've been following posts and threads on this forum for a while now, recently got my FAL and bought a bergara single shot in .308 after reading what people on here thought about them. I went to a farm to sight it in last weekend and mucked it up by dialling my elevation turret the wrong way and wasting a box of ammo... duh!
Anyway, I'm just putting the feelers out there and wondering if anybody knows of a place in or close to Auckland where I could have another go? Deerstalker's range is closed this weekend, otherwise I would have gone there. Would appreciate any advice or pointers! cheers!

Ive got a colometer i could throw on your rifle to get it close if you want. What part of auk are you in roughly

Don't worry mate,you not the 1st to dial yr scope the wrong way.Buy a packet of cheap ammo and try and sight in at 50yds for a start.Then try at 100yds.Expensive hunting ammo not that necessary shooting inside 200yd for a 308.

I'm feeling very smug: got a new scope and fitted it to the rifle, held the rifle between sandbags and bore sighted it as well as I could. Last night went and fired a few rounds through it at 100m to see how much more work it needed prior to the Xmas hunting trips. 5 inches left and bang on for elevation. Not bad for the old eyeometer.

In a hurry before a hunting trip,some guys have put a scope on rifle with the windage on top.Guess where the elevation was.lols

A great way to get very close.
Do it at 25yards first.
Then 100 yards.
But, you will need to confirm with a 3-5 shot goup.

Look up who tee who on YouTube I use his 10 yard method followed by 100yard to confirm. I do yards as the range I use is set up that way

A little trick I've found when putting a new scope on a rifle is that when doing a bore sight with the "eyeometer", I do it at as longer range as possible, i.e. a tree on a ridge 4-5 km away, you'll be surprised how close your first shots are when you compare it to a short distance bore sight.

After you shoot your group, clamp your rifle in place (small tie down strop works well) with the cross hairs on the target.
Dial your crosshairs off the centre of the target onto the centre of the group you shot.
After you unclamp your rifle, you will adjust your position to get the crosshairs (as well as the barrel) back on centre.

You might not get it in four shots but here is the general principle

before getting it on the target centre for adjustment. Getting it on target centre involves a bit of mucking around, but it saves lots of money and lots of other mucking around. I can usually get things sighted in at 100 with 7 shots or less.
