    NRA Hawkes Bay Champs

Had fun competing in day 1 of the Hawkes Bay Champs today.

    We shot 300, 500 and 600 yds.

Managed my first 50, not bad on my 4th outing in FTR Helps having one of the top 5 Ballinger belt finishers as a wind coach...

    Tomorrow is 800 and 900.
    Dougie and Neckshot like this.

Happy, 50 is 10 bulls in 10 shots, there is a smaller centre bull, where you get 10.01, so max theoretical score for a string is 50.10

For F-open, they score 6 for the centre bull, so 60 max.

The Omark is significantly nicer now that I have a limbsaver on it, no more bruised shoulder after each weekend

The target size varies per distance.

In very rough terms, I think it works out to around 2moa for the bull, and 1moa for the centre bull

Same target is used for 500 & 600, so 500 is proportionally bigger, and a bit easier to shoot, similar setup for 800 & 900

Wind is the killer, you have to shoot consistently over 10 shots per distance, under varying wind conditions.

    Finished on 235.12

900yds conditions were pretty horrendous - gusts, rain, low vis

    48.2 (300), 50.2 (500), 46.3 (600), 49.4 (800), 42.1 (900)

All in all a fun weekend, learnt a lot

Pete, Seddon Range in Trentham, falls under Wellington Rifle Association. Low numbers, but there were folks from Te Puke, Gisborne, and Clevedon (Auckland)

ebf I'm assuming approx 8 bulls (outer) in 10 shots for your score at 900 in crap conditions?

    very nice

I'm going to boot up a computer game so I can get close

Hi Garret, not quite 42.01 means 8 points down, so assuming I shot 4's for the rest, it means 1 bull, and 1 center-bull

What shooting computer game do you play ?

Hi, I remember the Omark had a real bad boot. Must be something to do with the stock shape ?

Is this traditional NRA style with slings and iron sights or is it F class with bipods and stuff ?
