    NRL?

Hi guys. Just wondering if New Zealand has a NRL competition or anything similar. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Cheers

Unfortunately not. There are a couple of guys doing competitions, but there is no national competition. Have a look at:

    Gillice Practical Rifle Events: https://www.facebook.com/GPREventsNZ/

    Down south:
Alpine Long Range Shooting Matches NZ https://www.facebook.com/AlpineLongR...MatchesNZ2016/

    NZ Vortex Mountain Challenge https://www.facebook.com/nzmountainchallenge/

    Sparrowhawke NZ https://www.facebook.com/Sparrowhawknz/

Some of the guys might be able to add some more.

If you are into long range target shooting, then there are a couple of those around as well where you can punch paper (electronic targets) up to 1000y.

    Janleroux nailed it.

There used to be events north of Auckland but the guy running them has been absent for a few years now, there was going to be done centerfire events based out of Hamilton this summer but I guess Covid got to those.
For 22lr events Simons Tokoroa ones are your best bet, but they are usually just twice a year.

Currently the demand is far greater than supply for these type of events, especially in the upper North Island.

If its of any interest to you there are rimfire silhouette matches down Tokoroa pretty much every month of the year.
Two day Sat/Sun & can all be done with a normal sporter 22rf rifle. Also an air rifle section if you want to have a go at that.
If you want more info just let me know.
    Cheers

NZDA is holding a sporting rifle shoot soon at Tokoroa. Its range shooting from a variety of positions including snap shooting and running boar. Well organised and Highly recommended.

Classic: Your fully wooded iron sighted bolt action milsurps.
Modern: Created following the semi auto ban. Basically a sporting/hunting style bolt action rig, with 10 round mags and a scope limited to using 4 power. So mostly Ruger Americans with AR mags, Howas and Tikkas with factory or AICS magwells. These have a weight limit. A scoped sporterised 303 would qualify.
Open: Pretty much PRS or FTR bolt action rigs, just no Fclass bipods or rear bags. No limit on weight or scope power.

@dogmatix what are “snap” “rapid” and “sustained” and typically how many shots at a time ?
Or is there a course of fire or rule book online we can look at ?

Assume all are with a 10 round mag, or 2x 5 round mags/stripper clips.

Snap is when a target pops up and you fire required number of shots each time before the target drops down again. Usually for 3 seconds for one shot, or 5 seconds for 2 shots. Can be standing, kneeling or prone depending on distance.
Rapid is just that. Normally 10 rounds in 50 seconds now we have bolt actions only.
Sustained is 10 rounds in 90 to 120 seconds depending on distance or positions.

Downloads from ASRA website include the Service Match Code (rules) and COF (course of fire) for a few comps are available.
