The thing is, there are just some complete dickheads with their head up their arse who are too arrogant to believe there are others with a differing opinion even if they use a similar thing like it has a bigger mag. Then they are too stupid to just keep their mouth shut.
Or there will be firearms users who grew up with a single shot 22 and a 303 and cannot see any justification for anything else. They have no clue that they are throwing us all under the bus by commenting against the rest of us.
Anti's use the 'thin edge of the wedge" mentality. Divide and conquer. Every victory no matter how small is taken and then they move to the next thing and so on.
This is one of the reasons the NRA are so rabid and passionate in the defence of their firearms. I read about it in articles from old US mags back from the 70's.
They identified the methods used back then. They have just mobilised way better than we ever will and have an almost fanatical patriotism to rally around.

Australia is proof that the anti-gun lobby used the "divide and conquer" technique on the gun community - That is solely how the 1996 gun buy-back happened, Aussie shooters tore each other apart.
It'll happen here too if we aren't vigilant about what is going on and inform others who are not informed. Strength in numbers is where it's at. If writing emails to the media and MP's isn't your thing then use your strengths elsewhere - Take the time to take new people out and introduce them to shooting. Even try take an "anti-gun" person out to see that responsible shooting isn't all that bad and that we are not the issue.

On the plus side too, it's always fun taking someone out shooting!

Yup. A number of people had previously told police that Grey was not 'fit and proper' and voiced concerns. That was the real issue. The whole MSSA thing was to be seen to be doing something, even though most of those he shot were with a bolt action 22 if I remember correctly.

There were the same warning signs at the Australian massacre at Port Arthur from what I gather. Also a bit of "grassy Knoll" conspiracy theory about another shooter too.
I heard a whisper from years ago, cant remember who from, that came from that way. It went along the lines that the copper wasn't always that "nice" to Mr Grey at Aramoana.
Seems coincidental that he was the first one shot but then it doesn't quite concur with that theory as If that's the case and there were warning signs, why wouldn't the copper have done something sooner. If he didn't like him why would he do him a favour and ignore alleged signs.

I'm pretty sure the cop that was killed was one of the last, if not the the last, person to be shot. Not the first.
