    old ICI .22 ammo

Lots of learned people out there. Does anyone have a rough idea when this ICI ammo was made ? two head stamps in the box-- general ICI and then a silver case with an arrow or similar design-- couldn't get a decent photo of it. Friend found it clearing out an old ladies (their family friend) drawers.

    Appreciate your help

I miss those little boxes. M<uch easier to put in pocket than the big plastic ones now. And quieter.

Used to see the odd packet of those around when I started shooting in 1970 but the ones we used a lot of were the CAC and they had the silver case 38 gr HP. They were HV and worked very well on small game and we shot heaps of goats with them as well. From memory they were .90 cents a pkt of 50 or just under $ 10 for 500.
Another type we liked were the Winchester Wildcat 40 gr solid, once again good on goats.

That packet may be Australian manufacture - ICI in Melbourne loaded ammo in very similar packets to the ones CAC loaded under contract here to ICI Britain.

My earliest recollection of using my father 22 Brno 581 was 1968, (up Otaki Forks) I was aged 10. I don't remember those orange boxes, but I do remember the targets printed on the inside of the boxes. Classic! I'm pretty sure my father used ICI and or CAC. I still own that rifle....Sort of. I had to rebuild it so the stock is original, but the lock and barrel are off a different rifle, with some parts from my fathers original. That barrel is date stamped 1962.

Pre 70’s. For sure. Probably a lot number inside the end flap that could give you a date?

Used to have a box of the shorts, cut my teeth shooting all that ICI & CAC stuff back in the day. With the good ol Remington target master single shot. From the old man.
It even had a rear peep sight.
