    Pistol and 3Gun

With the new Auckland Shooting Club soon opening, and some opportunities to train in pistol and 3gun shooting, (and being a complete newbie) i'm interested to see what guns/gear those already participating use?

CZ 75 shadow SP 01 or a glock 17 are good entry level pistols.

Nothing 'entry level' about a Shadow. All you'll ever need unless you want to spend shitloads of money on a temperamental open gun.

Popular divisions seem to be open and modified. I dont want to go near open for fear of my bank balance.

Modified would be the next one that most go for. Optics on the AR which needs to be E cat for the 30/40 round mags you will use and there are a mix of what shotguns people are using. Usually semi's with an mag extension but a number of people still shooting pump action.

Modified is a good place to be imo, lost of people using their ipsc production pistols, basic AR with optic and lots of basic shotguns. You can have all of the fun without the heavier investment to be competitive in open.

I just got my boy the S&W 15-22 .22lr AR for use at the auckland shooting club for the ipsc mini rifle comps we will be holding. Everyone I talk to is keen to give that a go. Nice cheap competition and with a bunch of keen guys/gals it doesnt really matter that it's only .22. There will be plenty of fun.

    My Production rig

Probably the cheapest setup you'll ever see at an IPSC match, but you can still make GM with it

Usually skateboard deck tape. Just buy offcuts from a skate shop and stick it on yourself. The IPSC rule book has the diagram of where it can and can't go on a Production Division gun.

$6 roll of grip tape from Mitre10 Mega. You'll find it near the duct tape. Feels much better than stock, especially when your hands get sweaty.

    Thanks.
It just looked a bit different in the pics. Ie roled edges. I guess from frequent use.

Except when you go somewhere like Indonesia, even 16 grit silicon carbide won't stop you gun trying to escape like a greased weasel.
