    Question for 7mmsaum

Andrew , If I put a muzzle brake on my Tikka will the POI change enough to warrant re setting the zero at 100 yds ?

    Cheers Nathan

Highly likely, as your rifle will have been disassembled to thread the muzzle, and the extra mass of the brake will effect barrel harmonics.

A quick POI check being more vital in your case as you use your rifle successfully for long range hunting of SI game animals, a small deviation from your intended POI @ 100 yrds is a large error in your POI at longer reaches.

My feeling is a rifle/scope/ammo combination that is intended for harvesting of game animals at long range should probably be checked at 500yrds as well, imperfections will be multiplied 5x and easy to see, and adjusted out.

Furthermore a keenness to abide by moral and ethical hunting practises and responsible rifle ownership would have us checking our rifles intended zero periodically, regardless of any alterations.

Time and ammunition consumed during said testing cant be considered a waste but an opportunity to familiarise and learn.

Most consider a suppressor more practical on a 7mm08 which hardly needs the recoil reduction of a brake.

The main thought being If you are going to the expense of having some recoil reduction then it may as well be quieter, whereas if you owned a rem mag it would benefit from the increased recoil reduction a muzzle brake offers over a suppressor.

You better not be braking your 7mm08!
