    Ranges in Nelson

    Hey team,

I’m just about to be cooking up my first batch of reloads soon and will be needing to put in some time on the range. I currently go up to lake Rotoiti and use the range up the Teetotal but it is quite a drive from where I live. Are there any ranges that people recommend checking out? Have heard about a really good one up Dovedale but cant for the life of me find any information on it.

    Cheers

Hi @7RMBoy.... I go out to the cable bay range. Shooting adventures I think they call themselves. Public can use the range on Sundays but you have to call and book a slot, $10 for what is usually an hour slot. The only range I know of in nelson where I can run my big guns. 25,50,100 , 200 ,300 , 460 and on up to 780 odd meters if I remember correctly. Shorter ranges take your own paper targets but from 460 meters there are steel gongs on the hillside of varying sizes.
Give Bruce a call... good bloke.

Dovedale is most likely the Motueka Pistol club. You need to be a member or guest of one to get access.

Mot pistol club is a good venue. Associate membership for a year is pretty cheap and you can shoot out to 440yards (from memory). Good people to deal with too.

Bit confused by the request after receiving that pm reply.
You asked for ranges in Nelson, but then tell me that Hira is too far out and that you are nearer the lakes.
Not having a pop, just a tad confused

    Hey,
Apologies, should have been more specific on my location. I live in Wakefield so Hira is about the same travel time for me. Cheers

Gourmet Rd is Mot pistol club and like has been said about 400yrds is the limit there( I did try to make it longer but got stopped when i tidied the range up a few years ago) A good range and nice group of guys. As time goes it's pretty much the same to Bruce's at Cable Bay. He has no time limit but does ask how long you expect to be there so he can take other bookings. Any day and time except Saturdays as the rifle club are there. Usual ranges are 25,50,100,200,300. Gongs of three sizes at 460, 650. If you move to a different firing point you can go out to over 1000yds. This can only be done when the quarry isn't working. Bruce will sort you out on what and when can be done. Deer stalkers have a range not far out of the city and I believe talk to Kiwi Greg on here about that
