Reading the Wind for that long shot

One of the hardest parts of long range shooting/hunting. The photo is from Norways LR CD and illustrates the wind speed in relation to flags, same principal can be used for vegetation. The wind meter I use is a Kestrol 2500.

How do others read the wind?

If its guns, tits or tyres it's going to cost you lots of money

I can't believe it. Crzyman didn't get the good model

I don't get that flash, if it blows my hat off it's windy. If I have to lean into it then it's fucking windy and I should be home, which is what I did tonight.

I have a Kestrel 4000 and damned if I can make shots even at 450 - 550yrds in a wind . where I shoot there area lot of gullies and even if I get say a 10pmh wind where i am it's probably alot sronger through the gully I'm shooting across.
I've missed that many shots trying to do it the proper way I very rarely even take the thing now.

I use mine all the time, just not for long range. The pressure is at 1020 so I know no rain for a bit In fact it goes pretty much everywhere with me, the 4500 with the cradle thingy to download.

To test the wind where Im shoot from, I just use the "how far does a piece of grass go" test ie If the grass flys 4m that equates to 10mph
    ( I usually run on 1m = 4kph )

or you could just watch which way the birds a flying
Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!

In that case, the obvious conclusion to come to is that you're not doing it 'the proper way'.
