One of the hardest parts of long range shooting/hunting. The photo is from Norways LR CD and illustrates the wind speed in relation to flags, same principal can be used for vegetation. The wind meter I use is a Kestrol 2500.
How do others read the wind?

I don't get that flash, if it blows my hat off it's windy. If I have to lean into it then it's fucking windy and I should be home, which is what I did tonight.

I've missed that many shots trying to do it the proper way I very rarely even take the thing now.
I use mine all the time, just not for long range. The pressure is at 1020 so I know no rain for a bit ;) In fact it goes pretty much everywhere with me, the 4500 with the cradle thingy to download.
To test the wind where Im shoot from, I just use the "how far does a piece of grass go" test ie If the grass flys 4m that equates to 10mph
( I usually run on 1m = 4kph ) :thumbsup:

Yes but look how many I missed first before I got the windage right. 4.25moa of left impact windage to get that shot.If I'd have been by myself I'd have moved closer and looked at shot's around 200-250 in that wind.Quote:

It's not my fault you're using a terrible outdated unit of measurement.
For most people the 2500 will be all you need but for me the 3500 gives me just a little more for those really long shots. The 4500 and blue tooth showing real time solutions is cool but I've proved to myself that weather conditions don't change fast enough for all the extra money out lay, having your wind vain on a little stand dose mean you can keep and eye on it as you watch what the wind is doing down range. Shooting in the same areas alot the time has given me a bit of and advantage with what the wind is likely to be doing so increasing my first shot hits.
