A bag rider is supposed to give a bigger surface area to work with between the bag and your rifle. So if the rifle recoils, your stock will move backwards in a straight line which should allow you to get back on target much faster for follow up shots. More applicable for PRS style competitions where you have to send multiple rounds within a short time.
