    Remington 700 Long Range

I'm thinking I need one. Does anyone who owns/owned one have any feed back on this model in 300 WinMag. I'd be mainly using it for long range target shooting up here but if time and circumstances allow will be lugging it around the South Island high country sooner or later.
Since I seem to have issues selling things I don't need I'd like to make an informed choice before I get one.

I had a sendero in 300 win mag, liked it a lot but sold it because it got to little use, im not into lr target and it was not exactly a bush gun and i dont shoot over 500 even in clear country normally. A friend has a tikka sporter in the same cal he's used it to 874 yds on wallabies and chammy, sold his 308 and a 6.5 and thats his go to hunting rifle now.

I think you really have to look at just what the average sporting rifle is capable of these days before you go dragging some big heavy bastard of a thing around the hills. Have had a play with the exact rifle you are talking about (Rem700 LR in 300winmag) and it was a heavy bugger, probably ok if you were only target shooting or hunting with a quad etc but I wouldn't want to cart one round the hills for a day.

Got mine couple of months ago. Fitted a suppressor and 8 shot detachable mag. Had to cut the pistol grip away to fit the thumb better. Have the trigger screw wound out but can't get it below 4 lb. I only got it because mag well is longest of common brands at 95 mm. As Ryan said not much good in the hills or offhand or running shots. Next season will put in 30 inch carbon barrel and good trigger then I will be happy with it. Will try to post a photo.

A buddy of mine just bought one. Paid $1250 for rifle + all accessories + dies. Couldn't turn it down at that price!

He only got it a few days ago Steve. Going to pull off the Nikon scope and replace it with a Leupold Mk4 and load up some ammo.
I'd say he's itching to shoot it!

I suspect it might have been that one...most of his toys seem to come from TM.

My mate has a LR in .300WM, it's certainly heavy, but heavy enough that recoil is tolerable with no brake or suppressor; not pleasant, but you could live with it for the first few rounds. I'm going to be reloading for him so I'll be keen to see how she goes, but as others have pointed out, these days a factory hunting rifle is generally capable of the accuracy you'd want for long range hunting. From a reloading perspective i'd still have a hard look at the Remington brand, nothing fancy but the twist rates and mag lengths on any given Remington is going to beat your average Tikka, both being conducive to heavy, high BC bullets.
