My mate has a LR in .300WM, it's certainly heavy, but heavy enough that recoil is tolerable with no brake or suppressor; not pleasant, but you could live with it for the first few rounds. I'm going to be reloading for him so I'll be keen to see how she goes, but as others have pointed out, these days a factory hunting rifle is generally capable of the accuracy you'd want for long range hunting. From a reloading perspective i'd still have a hard look at the Remington brand, nothing fancy but the twist rates and mag lengths on any given Remington is going to beat your average Tikka, both being conducive to heavy, high BC bullets.
