Thread: Rest Bag Filler

Hi all. What's the best rest bag filler we have access to in NZ. I'm filling one of those X shape bags. Thanks.

Without a doubt, the plastic fill beads used in teddy bears. https://www.bearessentials.co.nz/cat...-pellets-copy/
They have a decent weight (but not as heavy as sand), are hydrophobic, and 'nest' well to support the firearm. Just don't over fill the bag.
I use these in all of my gun bags and my photography (camera) support bags.

Any idea what the volume of 1kg of beads is?

Your in luck. I just so happen to have a fresh 1kg bag on hand. Very rough measurements has it at 1.5-1.6L/kg

The question is.... how much filler do I need? as in liters, for one of these https://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Conne...ot_top?ie=UTF8.
I could only find the capacity for the Caldwell version which is 12L.

The other issue with foodstuff fillers is that it can attract mice.

And mould.

I used Bean Bag Filler for the last 7 years. Yes, it compacts over time but re-fill every couple of years. Extremely light to lug around, no mould or moisture issues.

Bought a $29, 15l bag of Purrfit silica cat litter today, all I could find. Filled the rest bag with enough left over to fill a old sock for a rear rest. Geez that stuff is dusty, but did a good job of filling the bag to a nice weight and firmness.

But if your in a tight spot you can eat it, unlike kitty litter.😊
