If the scope has lost its zero I wouldn't trust it again and would send back for a refund

Bit of shit stuck under the barrel from last hunt? pull it down & give it a clean. While you are at it, decarbon the barrel with some CLR as 7Saum & RL26 a great ring maker according to other users.
My 260imp & 26 carbon up after a few & can notice a pressure spike happening

when your rifle is sighted in...to your desired ZERO.... put the plurry colimeter/boresighter back on wiggle it around till it settled in place and WRITE DOWN where its now pointing...it doesnt matter a shit if its 3 squares left and 2 up....thats your zero.
in future if you have doubt you slip it on and have a squiz.
you can even swap scopes and retain your zero.....near enough for sub 300yrd close enough anyway...as said earlier, assuming deer had 20" chest...you missed by 10" either way at 300 yards so out by at least 3" at hundy......that will show up like pooh stain on Nanas rug.

you dont need to go to range to check scope is dialing right either...you can watch it do its thing....
Can do the same thing with a simple boresight, can even do it on the hill if someone suspects they are a turn out on their turret.

Oil ring maybe. Doesnt take much. Sliding your finger down the outside of the barrel might tell a story . . .

the suspense -- my bet is the scope -possibly incorrect settings - or failure of internals - why most other stuff would be pretty obvious - cant see a whole series of clean misses (but) -some of what has been said likely only minimal impact on zero sooo

It is equipment failure without a doubt
A 300 yard shot on a deer shoulder is a chip shot.
If it helps I have an unopened bottle of RL 26 that I will trade for a Bentley Turbo R, so long as the Bentley comes with a 10 yr warranty..

Nah, haven't been out yet. Had some other priority rifles to sort out in the time I had spare. This will be done this weekend weather pending as my sika foundation cull trip was canned

Can you do a decent bore sight from your house? Setup rifle on a bench/table with stable rest on butt end and find something roughly 4 inches at 100 yards. Tree knot or the likes. If you’re good at it, you’ll be within A4 paper at a 100. Be a quick and easy check before even going to the range.

    We’re all waiting……

When I lived in the US I had access to a 1000 acre property with a nice cleared ride for an electricity line. I shot my .300WM twice there at 500 yards, once in warm weather (about 26C from memory), and once at -6C. Difference in drop between the days was 19 inches, which would be a complete miss. RE22 powder, which is very temp sensitive, if anyone is interested.

Temp could be your problem, but if not the only one, will have played a part.

yeah mate, have done this. I usually bore sight at 100m before trying to zero a rifle. takes out alot of un necessary rounds
