Thread: Rifle ranges around whangarei?

Hi all,

Is there any rifle ranges around whangarei that have a range of 500+ yards? I have searched on google but it didn’t help me much. I Have shot on a friends farms but only managed to get to 350 yards and would like to try and stretch its legs a bit more.

Dargaville has a rifle club or range that shoots out quite far.

I forgot which one.

Let me know what you find out please. Whangarei Deerstalkers have a range I believe, but haven't been responsive to emails.

I have been told the that whangarei rifle club is developing a new 1000 yard range but I’m not to sure when it will open. I haven’t talked to the dargaville club yet but will let you all know when I find out. Cheers

Hmmm Ive heard rumors of a 1000+ in the works just south of Whangarei (in Ruakaka i think)? Not sure when scheduled to be up and running but meant to have all the goodies etc..

If you further up North, i believe the Oramahoe is 100,200 and then a 600m range, about 5-10mins south of Keri

The 1000yd one your talking about just opened up near waiotira, it looks pretty cool they have sensors on the targets and relays your shots to your phone. Think it’s run by Whangarei Rifle club?

Whangarei NZDS range is only to 200 mtr. Most of the committee are not email savy so don't expect that to work well.
Try a phone call in the evening.

The other range is the Oromahoe range. I have never shot up there but everyone talks well of it.

Once you join them, can you use the range whenever you want within reason?

I will find out. They said $125 - $200 a season and a $10 - $30 range fee dependent on type of member ship. Not sure if you can turn um and shoot whenever you want or only on open days. Will let you all know when I find out.

The NZDS range is on a private farm and so only available on range days when stock are clear. Reasonable farm track goes right past the range.
They shoot fortnightly with exceptions when they have out of town shoots on.
