Good stuff. It’s amazing how many people buy factory rifles with stocks that don’t fit them. I did that for many years but now have stocks made to my LOP, which is an inch longer than standard. Doesn’t sound like much but makes a huge difference. For shotguns it’s even more important.
Absolutely agree. Stock fitting for rifles is very much underappreciated. Not that you can't shoot well with standard rifles (you do), but with a fitted stock the "sweetspot" is there the moment you grip the rifle and see the reticle. I would prefer your way, having a stock made to fit me but this service seems mostly to be offered with shotguns.
Sakos fit me, just. I can shoot a Ruger. Everything else is made for Hobbits.
It’s amazing the look on people’s faces when you pack out their comb to actually get a good cheek weld and clear sight picture. Nearly guarantee that most people if they put their face on a comb properly they’ll be looking under the scope or down the bore
That is very cool. Only thing id say is I’ve been practising awkward field positions lately and there is so much variation in the way face shoulder and rifle interact that I don’t think you could get a stock set up to fit in all situations. So it’s equally important to practise shooting when you can’t get a good cheek weld or any cheek weld etc. I guess the smaller the calibre the easier it is to get a good shot off in weird positions. (?)
Fair enough. I agree about the eye to scope alignment.
I have 3 grs stocks now, on a 223,308 and 7mmRM. Its the adjustability and comfort that I like. great stocks (made in Norway)
They are heavy.
I have the total opposite problem to you guys. All the factory stocks are to long for me and shortening a synthetic stock doesn't work that well. I looked at a GRS for my tikka but they are longer than the factory one. I looked at a compact but they are too short
BC doesn't matter, until you need to dial
