Rotorua Long Range - Queen's Birthday Weekend

I am running a long range steel competition shoot in Rotorua on the Sunday of Queen's Birthday weekend (2nd of June 2013). There is a spot or two open on the entry list. Entry into the shoot is strictly by invitation only. This post is not an open invitation.

    Details:
    • There is a $20 per competitor entry fee. Bring your own drinks and snacks; there will be a late lunch BBQ put on after the shoot.
    • Targets will be set at distances between 350m and 950m (yes, meters). Most targets are between 450m and 700m.
    • In general any rifle of any caliber up to .338 will be allowed. Please let me know the caliber you intend to use so I can approve it.
    • You will need 40 rounds of ammunition per competitor plus a couple more.
    • Turn up ready to go! There will be no sighters, if you get real lucky I’ll let you fire a couple of fouling shots into a bank.
    • All competitors will be required to score and range officer for one other shooter. All competitors will be required to bring optics suitable for scoring and a time keeping device.
    • Rifle sharing is fine between no more than two people.
    • You will be required to walk the shoot course (about a 1km long) and carry all your gear with you.
    • All of the shoot stages will be timed!

As you can see this is not a shoot for a beginning long range shooter. I had 10 shooters come along last year. Most of them were experienced long range shooters and 3 pulled out cause the targets were too difficult and / or they simply weren't prepared.

PM me if you are keen to compete and i'll pass on the shoot rules. If you manage to get an invite out of me i'll pass on the shoot location at that time.

Gosh Gillie, over a day since your post and not even a single reply accusing you of elitist snobbery!
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Yeah, no open invitation to a bunch of people on the internet to join me on a property managed by a friend of mine where they will be asked to look after themselves while moving along a course and shooting longer range targets... in sight of a well used, public, bike trail and a small collection of rural houses... I absolutely agree with your post but i also know that anyone with a little experience with competition shooting will realise that i can ill afford something to go wrong and as the competitors will have to range officier for themselves i at least would like the exprienced competition shooters to out number the inexperienced.

On top of that I would rather make the shoot sound difficult and have people turn up expecting that over having people turn up, pay their entry and go home feeling like crap cause they weren't getting the results they expected. And of course if i discourage people from coming along it certainly makes the shoot easier to run with less competitors!
At least two, maybe four, members from here are coming along.

I should post a picture of someone shooting at targets while wearing camoflage clothing and watch the shit fly.

It my observation that folks dont like coming to these kind of events because their mouth has written a cheque their skills cant cash, all good spouting on how good their gear is how good they are and my favorite"it hold MOA all day mate, any range" on the internet, why some of you dont compete at F class competions is beyond me with some of the "groups" people shoot, why?simple, cause they talk shit!
Me,its about the shooting, personal achivement, the walk, meeting like minded people and 99% of the time really good guys, the 1% needs his mouth washed out.some of you will know who im refering to.

Not hijacking Gillie, but on Sunday me and another guy are walking a farm which will potenially be a walking steel course which will be run on a regular basis eg fortnightly, close to Hamilton, ranges from 300-1000 yards looking at about 20 targets from 8-12 inches.
We really hope that this will be supported.

I just see it rather yanky, red neckish and fucking amusing to see people, that are wearing full cams to a civilian event where the targets are not going to be looking for you. I mean why would you?
Cams are useful for some hunters and essential soldiers and imho, not for lounging around in, possibly stereotyping yourself. I spose I just get a chuckle out of seeing fat cunts in camo.

Ive competed in a few of these comps and I must admit it does seem kinda werid R93,I think it was a Jason Statham line "whats this, some kind of fuckin fancy dress party!" mind due I was in the invitational for Gunslinger at Ngamatea a few years back and rocked up in shorts and jandels on the first day, was only a pratice but still felt kinda awkward!

youd love the Dannevirke gong shoots then we pretty much look like we either just finnished milking cows or are going to shift some stock after the shoot.
