    Seeing "splash"

Gidday. The LGS has a very close to new Tikka Super Varmint in 308 that is murmuring to me. I foolishly sold my last 308 as I I couldn't see where my shots were hitting (or missing haha) on plates. Probably a combination of poor technique and a fairly light rifle.

So with a heavier 308 rifle like the super Varmint should I be anle to spot my own shots if my technique is up to stuff???

This is what you need for a bit of splash

Splash is a factor of a few things, soil- is it dry, is it moist, is it loamy and soaking them up on impact. Projectile construction also plays a big part. Match bullets tend to create better splash due to their tendency to expand rapidly on impact creating a mini explosion i guess. Most of this you probably already know. Like you said, your technique will have a bit to do with it, recoil control, having a natural point of aim. I had to re learn how to shoot prone but now i have i am a pretty confident prone shooter with good technique (so im told) doesn't amways come through in my results however

Find 6.5 easier to spot than 6mm and 7mm easier again with better trace too, will you have a brake on it ?

Reduce recoil? Add brake or suppressor and plenty of weight to stock to stay on target

A heavier rifle will help to see shot splash but so will the technique of your follow through. Learning better follow through is cheaper than upgrading tools/toys.
