    Service rifle, A Cat AR15

Hi folks, for those of you using one of these in service rifle shoots, how many 7 shot mags does it pay to have available to use ?

Hope to get into it soon, and have an idea I might struggle just using one mag, so any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers, Red

Trinity match is supposed to be shot with three mags, it's 15 rounds. Sometimes a big rapid match comes along. Get a half dozen and you'd be good to go.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

    Yeah, one is not enough.
    Minimum 3 I would say.

Three would get you thru most club days, but more would help a lot-I personally would consider four the minimum.

A small tool/cleaning kit comes on handy more often than it should.
    A large notepad and pen.
    Food and drink.
    A extra layer of clothing.
I find having my own rolls of patches makes my life easier.
    Extra ear pro.
    Extra batteries
Allways have extra ammo-re sighting or having to reshoot a stage happens.
    Chamber flags.
A sense of humor-in every shooting sport I have done there are those who nit pic rules and talk shit so not taking the whole thing to seriously will help you enjoy yourself and shoot better.

O as more ammo-you can never have two much ammo with you at the range

And a third time-extra ammo, all to often there are people-often handloaders who have only the exact round count for the day. Extra stages happen, fuck ups happen

At ASRA during the summer series we shoot out to 600m, but mostly 100, 200 and 300. At the Nationals, this year, we shot out to 600 yards. Most guys have their Service class rifles equipped with ACOG, ELCAN, Hensoldt or similar Service optics. There are a few battle sight rifles being used, SLR, AK, SKS etc but they typically become uncompetitive beyond 200.

Get whatever you think will improve your shooting/reloading.

IMO, for that price, you would be better off getting some more mags.

Yeah, Service rifle isn't 3 Gun. You rarely need to carry a bunch of mags on your belt, there's no shooting from on the move. You are more typically shooting from a fixed position and will have maybe 3 mags laid out in front of you where you can grab them as you change position prone/sitting/kneeling/standing. Maybe if you're doing a 10 round standing snap match with an A cat, you might have your second mag in a pocket. The RO is usually aware of A cats in the detail and will enforce a reasonable delay for a mag change at the appropriate time.
