I didn't say hold over, and I never would unless you are very skilled at range quesstamation. Old rule, aim at hair not air. If you need to holdover at three hundred there is something wrong.
The .223 is on at 100, shit dies out to 200 and there is no holdover happening. At times I will use it however if someone has a range finder along for the day or the eyeomitor is working well.
Remembering this is on rabbits, now I fail to see why a 300 zero is needed for deer. Remembering that 3" high at 100 is what you are doing.
Just did a quick search and the calculator came up with this for 300 300 -12.1 -3.9 High should shot equals dead deer with 100 zero, this was with a conservative load to.
