Shooting a couple of 338s

I took Ashlee up the range today to have a go with the new 338s.
The weather was poos but not as bad as they reckoned it would be ...yet..
I made a rain cover for my 35p & it works great.:cool:

One is my 98B Barrett that I have rebarrelled & rechambered in 338 Norma mag, 26-27" barrel.

The other is a 338 Edge with the same length barrel.

Both have my Terminator Brakes on them & are shooting 300 Berger Gen IIs at 28-2850 :cool:

Here is my Daughter Ashlee shooting them, the Barrett she shot 4 into 3/4 & the Edge 3 into 3/4 including the first one that opened it out :thumbsup:

The quality is abit average as I used her camera & it's the first time I've done that :yaeh am not durnk:

That 'scope looks to have good eye relief? Ashlee looked well back from it. Would she have been getting a full site picture?

I guess that she had ear plugs in, what sort do you use with those big bangers (I sighted a rifle in today with Remington earplugs in, and have got a headache)?

I doubt she had a full sight picture, but it doesn't seem to hinder her, apart from finding the target in the first place & moving the rifle between firing.

They are set up for me & I guess she is used to it & getting better, she shoots very well, as long as she has a rest :cool:

She has Grade 5 muffs on, you can just see the head band under her hair.

I try to get her to use plugs as well but her ears are still quite small being 12 :D

Thats great velocity from your short barreled edge, waste of time having a 30'' barrel around when you have that. :thumbsup:

And those brakes of yours have to be the most efficient in NZ -for a 12yr old lass to use like that!. Good on her, my daughter scares when the Kenwood Chef fires up:D

When she puts her mind to it, it is a very close run thing....:thumbsup:

Ask some off the guys that have shot with her @ the fun LR shoots she has been to, the look of disbelief is :wtfsmilie: :cool:

The best place to spot from is directly behind the shooter & low ;)

Even then with an efficent brake the blast still can upset the spotting scope a little.

I always try & keep away from guys the 416 is very anti social :cool:

they'r working out pretty well.What loads are you using? Following on from last time we talked about the edge vs norma I think you should take a hacksaw to the barrels and compare velocitys down to 24":yaeh am not durnk:

The Norma has the edge just.
Not much in it really.
It is all about what platform you have, the Edge is easier on the std magnum bolt face.
I would rechamber a Lapua mag to Norma in a heart beat, I just did that...
The Norma uses a little less powder & the ES is nuts, single digit easy.
Both will cruise @ 28-2850 :cool:

Good to see the next generation comming along.Think my daughter getting close to having a go with the pee rifle, Big for a 4year old and able to follow instuction as long as there is no distractions(the little brother)

Only got your PM when it was too late sorry Greg. Keen on the brake though, staying in NZ for another year.

No need for 30 inches now!

Because the factory barrel was a piece of shit, they are sending be another one apparently but I will be 90 before it getts here, bloody hopeless yanks.

It has as least two radial rings in the chamber & it is so over sized that I have split 3 Redding & a Hornady die resizing Normal brass.

It has/had radial machining marks visable in the muzzle, also a larger diameter drill will go into the muzzle than my other 4-5 338 barrels

It copper fouled like a complete mother fucker right from the start, I tried every thing, it still did after 6-700 rounds, that's a hell of a lot of $$$ in rounds alone.

It did shoot well until it fouled & then it took 5-7 rounds to settle down after cleaning, then after 15-20 it would need cleaning again..

It won't even stabilise 225s now.

Other than that I really like it, as cool as they come very functional if a little heavy, nice 10 round mags & case.

I imported it myself & it owed me less than I could get a TRG from the usual places, it probably owes me a little more than a TRG now :XD:

It shoots quite well now for the platform that it is, probably will never be as accurate as a "normal" bolt action.

I'm very impressed with the Norma round & will see how it goes at distance in a few days :D

Take her out on the bunnies with the 223 in a arsehole of a block. I did that with the boy (just 12) and bloody near learnt more than him on the day, just seeing how they go about thing's has got me thinking....

He's turning into a crack shot to, but HATES the noise and won't shoot without the muffs on. Even the 223 with the can on. Good to see you and her getting out there doing it but.

Took her down to Quentins when she was 10, this time of year, 2 years ago now....man time flies...

I got her Sams old CZ 204, the first centre fire she had shot, first bunnie at 95 yards :thumbsup:

The third time we went out she shot 2 @ 190, 1 @ 270 & 2 out of 3 @ 309 yards :cool: & severly harassed a rock @ 360 odd :thumbsup:

The scope was hard to use & eye relief was critical, lead to a bit of frustration on both sides.

After we got back I got her to shoot some groups & I still don't know how she shot so many rabbits, I guess a bit of paper isn't as exciting as a bunnie.

She is deffinately getting better with age & I guess only being able to do it in the holidays with Dad makes it even more exciting.

I wanted to get her her first Red Deer this holidays but I don't think thats going to happen, good things take time.

I will see how far she can get a bunnie or two today & steel tomorrow :thumbsup:

Loved the videos of your daughter shooting, looks like the new Terminator brakes are working great, the big question now is can you keep up with the rush to buy one.

I shot some good sub moa groups at distance with it on the coast & it has settled down nicely now, Very happy with it finally :cool:
