For factual accuracy, a 3dB increase is twice the intensity, a 6dB increase is twice the sound pressure level and (down in more sane noise ranges) 10dB is twice the "loudness". 140 dBSPL peak is considered max safe level for impulse sound. You are completely wasting your time/fooling yourself if you try to use cheaper meters on impulses- they will grossly under-estimate the peak level
