    South Canterbury Steel Shooters?

Anyone in the South Canterbury area have a set up where you shoot steel on a regular basis? I'd been keen to join you. I don't mind a bit of a drive, am keen to shoot steel more regularly then the once a year at the moment. I don't have any targets but am more then happy to get some to add etc.
    Thanks Zeb.

There is a group doing this just north of the Rangitata, but it's a very, very tight group and there is a bit of line up of folk already.

Yup boys there is a very tight FB group, run an excellent shoot, invitation only. No committee, no rule book, it aint a democracy, its a private group. Rules are very simple, if you are a pita then you get deleted, simple simple. Recently had a shoot, over 70 shooters, targets from 100 - 1400. Lots of ammo sent down range, excellent bunch of guys who dont tolerate any BS. apparently its a formula that works very well.

Just out of interest, what are the rules around setting up something like this on DOC land? we have gongs on the farm here but due to H&S its easier just to keep them to ourselves. I know a couple of spots that are very accessible on DOC land that would make great ranges...

Don't see why it would be a problem, long as everyone had a permit to hunt on doc land.

That's basically what was set up at Lake Lyndon, not sure if the gongs still exist though.

Sounds very much like the group I shoot sporting clays with. Invitation only.

Was a good a day out, weather good, no wind, no dramas on the day didn't bother past the 636 gong myself, but enjoyed Rod getting the 1450 a couple of times. Being surrounded by muzzle brakes my end did remind me how much fun they are not to be around.

Lyndon is a bring your own affair, but if you go there, keep your eyes well open for the numpties with no brains that have started turning up there. It is getting scary.

We just need more of the private groups to start up. It's all down to having a place to do it as the gongs are the easy part. I don't think DOC land with trampers and fishermen wandering around is the right place. One of the fundamentals of rifle ranges is to make sure you control access and confirm that nobody is down the bad end of the range and I can't see how you can do that at lake lyndon.
