I keep a 1/2 in the semi, no matter what, don't even know if it will come out.
U/O gets changed a bit, from skeet/skeet to 1/4 and full depending on shooting.
I am also shit at shooting ducks, I like the fuckers sitting still and not to far away.
1/4 winchoke for first hour of the day and the last hour....also for tight spot jumpshooting...the imp mod 3/4 goes in for geese, middle of the day and any time I think shots maybe longer. they both work well and truth be known I could leave either in and be happy.... it does make a difference and birds in close get cut up with tighter choke.
LM and Skeet in my trap gun although sometimes full and extra full but I shoot neither better or worser with either setup.
1/4 and 1/4 in my 20g "hunting gun"
and 1/2 in my Rem 870 cause thats whats stuck in it,
Shoot about the same with all of em.
Auto 5 is full choke barrelled and my favourite field gun by far. Such a pitty it cant take steel. I havnt changed the 3/4 in the extreema since I got it. The only gun I regularly change chokes in is my o/u for skeet and dtl, as I tried skeet once with 3/4 and full and didnt go so well.
I was considering tracking down another A5 barrel with looser chokes for steel as mine is full also so I can use the old girl a bit more, but been told that the faster steel loads recoil will hammer the shit out of it.
I've read recently (yesterday) about a chap who reloaded steel shot and did a 7/8" of 4's but was getting 1700fps supposedly, and low pressures (tested) from them with little recoil and equally as good results as the bigger more booty loads. That might be the way to go, but a bit of set up involved so probably wont happen
@csmiffy you could try Falcon PowerSteel which has 30g (1 1/16 oz) of 2,3 or 4 shot at 1520 fps. If in doubt give Target Products in Timaru a call and see what they reckon about your A5
but yeah you'd probably need another barrel or get your choke opened up a little.
ive done the reloading steel thing...both 7/8th and 1oz loads but kept velocity to under 1600fps. they are LOUD but kill well. only use an old whackamole lee setup so not fast but easy to do. gamebore also make a great 30grm load easy enough to find it...unlike the falcon. stick to shot sizes under #3 as it will help to prevent bridging ....for what its worth I use bakail u/o as it came from factory with these loads without issue,Ive also used falcon 35grm loads of #4s through it ok.
