Decided to get the 3006 out and try some 165 gr game king loads I'd made for an upcoming few days away.
I don't often use this rifle, a parker hale safari from the early 60s but this is a special occasion an overnighter with an old friend and he's got a sako forester.
So I load the bike with groundsheet, targets, spotting scope, ammo, rifle etc and head off on the 10 minute ride to my flat paddock "range" get everything set up to start at 100 and go out to 400. Get behind the rifle, get comfy drop a round onto the floor plate and close the bolt or try to just as I think oops.
The action unlike all my other rifles is control feed so I've jammed the cartridge in the chamber with bugger all chance of having the extractor slip over it, a few hopeful thumps on the ground confirm it's stuck solid and I didn't bring a rod.
In a bit of a mood I drive home, clear it and decide on having lunch and a coffee before going back.
Over the hill comes a thunderstorm, just a personalized one for our part of the valley. When it stops I will go pick up all the now soaked stuff I left there come back home and sulk for the rest of the day.
