Old Malc with a C3 and zf 64 or 84 Kahles? Has he got the TX1200 barrel or is it in something other than 7.62?
That was his one from when he was in. All original other than the bipod. With the original barrel he put on it before he got out, still in .308 of course. He was third overall... The three shot magazine slowed him down a little.
Sorry, Malcolm was fourth overall and only after we had a look at one of the targets and reviewed the video.
I really enjoyed watching that Gillie. Looks like a real fun day. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, it was a very fun day. It ran like clockwork and the BBQ at the end was spot on - as we'd all worked up an apatite and were a little dehydrated!
Thanks for all your efforts Gillie.
kj
Dehydrated!! You mean drinking all the ginger beer before the BBQ didn't keep you buggers hydrated! I got back to the shelter there and all i saw was empty ginger beer bottles!
Actually i was glad you guys didn't drink all the water in the chilly bin because we needed it picking up targets!
This event is coming up again this year. Get in touch if you are interested in coming along.
What date is this years one on @Gillie?
Weekend of the 22nd of November.
This Tarata , is east of Inglewood ?
If it is , put me down as coming , 308win , 175gr at 2700fps .
Cheers Chris
Yep, that is Tarata - and Chris you have been there before! I confirm some more details by pm/email prior to the date.
I'm keen @Gillie. Potentially have a few mates as well?
Calibre restrictions?
There is limited entries but yep there are about 6/7 spots left. Nothing over 300WinMag unless you have talked to me and i have specifically approved it otherwise...
Most of the details are in this old thread from last year. main difference is we will not have "practice targets" though i will have a couple of fun targets at the BBQ location for those that want to fire some more ammo away.

Im in LOVE , Parker Hale M82 / C3 rifle .
BUt then most here know Im a big gun slut .
Yeah, an actual C3. A very nice bit of kit. If Malcolm makes it along to this year's event he will shoot this rifle again.
See you Saturday Simon , looks like some Taranaki sun shine ( ie rain ) coming ,
Later Chris
Yep, looks like we might need some wet weather gear. Water proof score cards are sorted. Still its a south westerly so it'll have to get past the mountain and over the saddle before it gets to us...
Truck is full of targets so i can set the course tomorrow. Just to sort my own shooting gear now!

Hehe, see you Sat morning, I'm pretty sure I'll forget to pack something, but hey, its all a learning experience :D
Yeah ,
Will see IF my little shitbox car gets me there ?
No guarantee's , its only a Toymota
Opps ,
I might bring out my old Parker Hale , as well as me AW .
@ChrisF unfortunately Malcolm won't be there this year with his C3. Track sounds alright up to the woolshed unless it really rains before we get there. I will see it tomorrow.
Track into the woolshed looks fine. Even for your little toymota, @ChrisF
Cool, then the superzuki van might make it up the hill :D last forecast I looked at before leaving welly looked like massive downpour tomorrow afternoon
Yeah, we'll try and speed things along. BBQ down at the house. I'll probably head out on Sunday for a little bit of drop validation shooting before i pick up all the targets.
Suzuki s packed to the brim got a pick up the bro at 6 then on the way up. The boys got my number if plans change
Huge thanks to Gillie for a fantastic event. Well organised, and very interesting and challenging course of fire.
Learnt heaps, and already looking forward to the next one !
Some notes for newbies :
@Gillie is a sadist... He especially loves punishing left handed shooters :P
Redo your drop chart and add angles beyond 30 degrees...
While you are at it, double the max wind value you normally shoot in !
I do not like cargo nets :D
Good to meet @scoped and @ChrisF
Well, no photos or video from me today - weather could have been a lot better, though it did get worse after most people had left the BBQ. A little wet and very windy! Made for a challenging days shooting. The sitting shots off the cargo net and barricade were quite difficult - the wind would buffet your body making holding the rifle steady impossible.
I had a great day though. I haven't shot my .260 in a few months and was nice to be reminded how good a set up it is for this style shoot with the big Kahles K624i on it. Was real good to meet @scoped and @ebf, and good to catch up with @ChrisF, @Grasshopper, @lost, and @Bagheera.
Fingers crossed next weekend weather forecast is better!
Thanks gillie for organising the shoot and thanks hans and family for their hospitality. We'll definitely worth the trip up from wells despite the intermittent rain and gusty winds it was still a good day and lots of things learnt. Just as well we had that practise a few weeks ago as I was using my wind dope from that but the wind was still hard to pick at times.
The barricade and net I thought were definitely a good stage and required a bit of thinking to get stable and stuff. The know your limit stage was good too managed to get them all with help from @ebf with his great spotting skills!
Time limits I think we're fair which meant you had to be mindful of not messing around too much but still had enough time to range, dial set up etc for each target. I think it would have been better with the 30 second stage to be able to load the rifle before the time started but hey it's not a biggie.
Great to put a few faces to names and hope to catch you all next year:thumbsup:
Yup as everyone has mentioned, yet another brilliant shoot! Time limits were fair, which put enough pressure yet still manageable. The barricade and net really stuffed me up as expected, man I suck without a bipod! Haha
Thanks again Gillie for organising and running a top shoot, I don't even want to start imagining how much time you put in to ensure we had a bloody good time shooting!
Good meeting some new faces off the forum ebf, and catching up with Gillie, scoped, ChrisF, and Bagheera. Grasshopper left NP this morning :)
Cheers again,
Nelson
Fair call on the 30 second stage. I re-shot this stage today before we picked up the targets. Had a couple of cameras with me this time and videoed myself shooting. I'll put it together into a short clip. @andyanimal31, expect to see similarly hard target at Taihape this year. Malcolm and I have been talking and think we may have a good target for you guys. Well, we think it will be good for spectators!
Cheers, Nelson. I enjoy most of the time i put into shoots. Great to meet a bunch of like minded people and have some fun shooting with them!
Big thank you to Gillie for organizing the shoot! As always, it was fun! My drive back to Auckland took more then 6 hours as I was driving to the road condition and my driving ability condition Took a few stops on the way just to stretch my legs and do a bit of Tai Chi to recharge myself, ya right! Good to have meet new faces and catch up with old ones. Finally, thanks Hanks and family for your hospitality and NO! we will NOT go inside your house with our wet clothing

Quick video demonstrating the 30 second stage scoped talked about. I took the video on the Sunday (day after the competition). The weather was much nicer and there was less wind.
good vid and good shooting
sucked for me as my rifle only fits 3 rounds with the 284 case, so had to handload the last 2, and time got short. still managed to hit it though
hard to shoot with that wind on Saturday and factoring the target moving around too
Nice, what was the wind like on Sun compared to Sat ?
We really should have gotten video of some of the contortions and shooting positions on stage 6 :D
