Mate that is a decent amount of dish so you should be able to get a really good quality scope. The gurus on here will flock to this thread in a matter of moments

Righto, what type of target shooting are you keen on ?

NZDA style, long range plinking at gongs, or "formal" type target shooting as in f-class or FTR ?

When you say further than 600, out to where ?

Do you reload ? What are you currently shooting (rifle, caliber, optics etc)

Answers to those questions will narrow the options a bit.

Bottom line, leave at least half of what you want to spend for optics

A 375DCM and a big mofo scope with a big mofo pice tag would go a fair bit past 600

You'd need a mofo muzzle break on that rig as well

I'm running a NF 5.5-22x50 with MOAR reticle and zero stop. Very happy with it. Using Strelok on iPad for ballistic calculations, it has most scope and reticle combinations.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

    Cheeky bugger

Toby, my entire annual shooting budget might stretch to half a dozen of the cases for one of KiwiGreg's toys

It really depends on what kind of competitive long range shooting you want to do

Most NRA ranges shoot tr, ftr and f open. 300-1000 yards , although some ranges don't go out to the full 1000

Tr is open sights with a sling using .223 or .308 only, no rest or bag
Ftr is .223 or .308 using a bipod and rear sandbag
F open is any calibre 8mm or under, shot from a bipod or front rest and rear bag

    I shoot f open and use a 6mmBr or a 6.5-284 with a NF 12-42 bench rest scope
