    Target size

A couple of mates are looking to stretch their rifles out beyond the usual 100 mrs mark and I just wondered what size target you longer range guys would suggest starting out with.
Cals involved are;243/308 Lapua mag with max scope power of x12. No fancy dial ups, just basic bush hunting setups.
They are hoping to get out to 400 mtr.

12" plates or size target would be ideal as its the vital organ size,if they want to sharpen up a little just drop in size to 10" 8".

Big sheet of cardboard with a MOA dot. Easy to see bullet holes at 400 when you aren't the sharpest for a start, saves a lot of ammo trying to find where you're impacting if you have your drop chart wrong etc.

Ha bloody ha. I am not even shooting on this occasion Maca, mainly cos I cant see past 200 mtr
Longest shot i have ever taken was on a pig a couple of weeks ago at 187. He had his head down in long grass and I misread it slightly. Nailed him about 2 inches behind the shoulder, but had to finish him off as it smashed his spine.

I use my neckshot hard bastard 12x12" gong plate ... and then once I've got a basic idea of fall of shot I start trying to hit clay pidgeons.

I started with the gong plate at 200 yards, now I can hit a clay at 250 (with my 223.)

Clays are great coz they're nicely luminous and easily seen even in low light.

I thought that I did quite well with 303 and open sights, but I guess it wouldnt hurt to get one of those new fang dangled scope things

@kiwi39. I paint everything dazzle orange mate.

The bit about using open sighted 303 is bullshit.

When our lowest denomination is 10c, you sound almost as bad as me.

There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!
