    Taupo NZDA range

    Hi guys
What’s the deal with using the range?
Down Taupo over the weekend and I’m a NZDA member
Do I need to contact someone ?
    Cheers

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

And enjoy the 7 day access while you can.
New range regulations are going to make that level of usage difficult moving forward.

    Not necessarily...

As with most things the answer is "it depends..."

In the case of casual range use, it really depends on the standing orders that are in place for the range. There are several ranges around the country that effectively manage range activities through the use of very specific standing orders.

I can see 'key' access to Taupo NZDA and pistol club members continuing 7 days, no issues there. But I'm not so confident for non members on a casual basis.
Perhaps some Taupo NZDA or PC members can advise.

Used it a week ago, people in Taupo area are lucky to have it, it’s so much better than the Auckland NZDA range. Come and go when you want (for now)
Apparently they are upgrading it too.

    @Frogfeatures - you can't use .308 caliber rifles there.

There was talk of deer fencing the whole thing and going to swipe card access, members only, that was in conversation I had some time ago though.

Yep, that is the future I see.
You can bet your bottom dollar that the forestry tracks in the pines off the N-T Highway and the quarry at TTG will become the new impromptu sighting in ranges if that happens.
    So much ‘Safer’.

Or the start of the quarry track at Clements Mill, or the motocross track at SF70 etc. I told them this in my submission. But the eyes are shut and the ears are painted on. They'd already had their mind made up for them.

Every thing possible is being done to make life difficult for licensed firearm uses & tempt them to indulge in not so safe practices & be deemed not fit & proper to have a license or just toss in the sport.

I told them I could still sight-in and do load development safely elsewhere, but not as safely as at a purpose built range

    Greetings All,
I think that the future use of ranges is clear. We should all join a club that has its own or access to a range. I joined Taupo NZDA about 20 years ago after the Roys Hill Range here in Hawkes Bay closed. I also belong to a local club that has access to a range in HB in spite of having my own range which I use sparingly. Joining a club like Taupo NZDA gives shooting organisations more clout in retaining the ranges we have and we all need to do our bit. No amount of moaning through forums like this will change anything.
Taupo NZDA is holding their first shoot for the year Sunday afternoon. It is a 4P 200m shoot. I am quite looking forward to it.
    Regards Grandpamac.
