    Taupo Shooting Range

    Hello hunters/shooters,

There used to be a shooting range in Taupo where anyone could walk in and shoot. Shooters would donate in the honesty box kept there. Is this still the case as I plan to visit Taupo in Jan2015.

I did find one thread with regards to this but its too old (2012)

    Regards and thanks in advance.

And if someone is on the 200 meter mound then no one can shoot on the 100 meter mound which is the only pain in the arse with the taupo range

Taupo NZDA range has 100 and 200 m mounds, but it would be very bad manners to use the 200 m mound when others need access to 100m and or pistol club. I f I want to use 200 m I usually go last thing in evening or very early morning. There are often pistol club shoots during weekends alongside the 100m mound , and Taupo branch has it's club shoots every third Sunday. Sometimes there are other events booked by other clubs on weekends as well. Therefore, pot luck on weekends. Better show of sharing range, normally 100m, or 50 m in running boar range during week days. Honesty box is $2 per shooter.

Didn't mean to necro an old thread but is the Taupo range still ok for walk-ins and are they closed over the summer period? Spending some time in the Taupo region and fancy some trigger time.

Its open 7 days, but every third Sunday is a club shoot and Wednesday evenings is a juniors shoot. Keep an eye on other shooters and make sure they pick up their rubbish, old targets etc and place in the bins provided. If you spot any loopys shooting cans, bottles, fruit, dead animals , birds etc then kick their arses for us please and make them stop and clean up then clear them out.
If you want to shoot 200m it would pay to be there very early in the day.

Also, Taupo NZDA has had a stern reminder from authorities to make sure the red flag is raised by any shooter entering by the gate. The flag is folded down in a box on RH side of the entrance gate. Please make sure it is up.

Ok so any shooter entering by driving through the gate needs to raise the flag?
