I agree that for a hunting rifle it's will be pretty heavy, I have a Tikka lite in 260 and 223 and am surprised at how well they shoot and how they don't seem to wander as the barrel heats up.
Any reason you want to stick with 308?
It's a fine round and will work for the hunting and targets, but I'd be inclined to go for a 260 or 6.5x55. Will have better ballistics and less recoil, only advantage 308 has is if you are buying factory ammo.
