My only involvement was to add a little class to the process.
I've now had time to spend at the range shooting with the Microcell pad fitted.
Something I hadn't mentioned in my original post was the fact that the rear of my stock was formed at quite an angle to the axis of the barrel, that is to say, not 90 degrees. As part of fitting the new pad I reshaped the stock so the rear of the pad is now perpendicular to the barrel. I also removed material from the bottom of the butt end in the hope this would transfer recoil to the top to help reduce muzzle lift.
The result is:
- The felt recoil is much the same as with the old R3.
- Muzzle lift is noticeably less, if I had to quantify it, I'd say maybe 70% less.
- Sideways movement of the rifle under recoil is significantly less.
So needless to say, I'm extremely happy with the outcome.
Nice tidy job on the fitting.
