    Top hats

No, not millinery but rather percussion caps. Mosin boys post about his sharps made me get mine out of the closet. Couldn't be arsed making cartridges so simple ball and powder would suffice. It would double as a chance to try the CCI caps I got recently as the old rws ones were running low.
Capped off twice to clear oil from the flash channel then loaded up with an rws cap. Kaboom. Reload and 3 CCI caps fire but fail to ignite the charge, an rws does.
Reload and sprinkle a few grains in the nipple, CCI cap, kaboom. Fired 5 more the same way, then one without priming the nipple which was a no go, put on RWS and she went.
These things have a long multi angled flash channel and obviously although probably 20 years old the RWS caps have a bit more oompah so I'll save the rest for the sharps.
Enjoyed shooting the thing again but there are no pics of the target, as at present I'm legally blind in my right eye but all did at least hit the ground.
Yes it still leaks at the breech like a sieve.

Lucky there's a heap of pines there to soak up all that carbon.

Add 25% more powder you reckon? It is a tad "leaky" it's not perfect for sure, and there were better designs cf obturation but sharps cornered the market during the civil war till the Spencer turned up.
