You are effectively relying on a couple of microphones, quite close together (6 or 8 inch stalk), to pick up the sonic crack. In theory this is fine, but when you start adding in vertical angles due to bullet drop, and horizontal angles due to target placement and wind, things get a bit iffy.

Using the displayed speed to get a rough idea of your ES or SD is fine, but as an accurate measure of actual speed, I would look to Magnetospeed or Labradar.

A cobber is having issues with his dope or maybe loads at extreme ranges - they are as predicted out to 1200M or so then not so much. I was wondering if an at target measurement well out might show up what is happening. (and before ya'all wade in, bear in mind this is no newbie, he's one of the South Is's top LR match shooters, so he knows his schit)
