Hey team,
Recently I’ve been hunting a lot of goats for the goat hunting comp. And I’ve been using the Winchester subsonic 308 bullets, and I’ve been shooting from about 100meters. I feel like they aren’t that great . And thought I may try out some of these Winchester silver tip ballistic rounds. Wonder if anyone has shot them and what your thoughts on them. Would these be more suited for shooting out to the 100-300 meter ranges.

id say head shots with subs bro! or under 75m for a shoulder.
Yes silvertips will be better to factor of about 1000% if not more.the ballistic tip projectiles are nosler made and very good indeed. Just about any load will kill much quicker and cleaner than what you currently using.keep those for in really close finishing off type shots.
been a few threads on hunting with subs. I think that the consensis is that only to about 50 mtr and even then you need to know your bullet drops, Given the lack of shock and internal damage they do you really need to be hitting, head, spine or CNS if you need a rapid kill shot. A subsonic through the lungs will kill but not neccesseraly fast.
If you are looking to push your range out but still want something soft shooting that will put a goat down look at some of the light weight loads in 125-130 gr range or some of the reduced recoil ranges. ie Hornady custom lite 125 gr SST at 2675fps, verse 3-3100 fps in a full power load, with a 200 yr zero it 2.3" high at 100 and 10" low at 300 yr.

Iv shot a few roos close in say 15-20yds with 22 subs,ear shots they do drop.308 subs you still need to be close in 50 yds with head shots and know the drop.Not much energy in subs of coarse.

I load subs in .44mag for a mate....they used for possums lol
Back in the day when tracer was legal, loading subs in a .308 and firing out over a large empty bay over on the coast was an eye opener. Beyond 50m the rounds act like mortar rounds, and you would need drop tables in 5m increments to be accurate (and ethical) if wanting to push subs out to 100-150m.
For coons around camp I use double nought buckshot tapped into the neck of a case with 3 grains of shotgun powder behind it. Good for 30-40 odd feet.
Those factory winny subs arent designed for hunting they wont be expanding at all
