    What caliber?

    Hey guys.
Im looking at buying a new rifle. I however am unsure of caliber, Already got a 6.5 creedmoor but I want something bigger that I can take out further. I want something I can stretch out to 700 meters if I really need too. Price of ammo isnt really an issue as I would only use it for deer and the od pig, use the creedmoor for goats etc. Id be hand loading too. Setup would probably be a 20 inch to 22 inch barrel with a over barrel suppressor. Anything in the 7mm range would be nice or somewhere around there. Im looking at 7mm rem mag but want to hear your guys thoughts.
    Cheers

7mm Rem mag is hard to beat imho. There's a bunch of other flashy calibers out there but they don't offer a great deal over the humble 7RM in my opinion.

I shoot 7RM with a 168 Berger doing 3050fps out of a 21.5" barrel which is ample for what you want.

7mmRM to be sure, unless you want to go to 338LM
but 7mmRM will do what you want no question asked

Never shot a fallow... Shot a yearling red hind with it the other day, made a pretty big hole in the base of the neck.

    Using 168VLD

There's a Tika 300WSM for sale on here, and its a good deal. Cut that back to 20-22" and it would be ducks nuts.

Heard of suppressors? Dock 2-4", add a suppressor, recover the lost velocity through hand loading.

A shortened rem mag or 7 SAUM would work well for what you are after or even a .284 win, the 7 saum and .284 will be harder to find than just going and buying a new rem mag.

+1 for 284 or SAUM, my pick would be 284 given what you’ve what you have stated. Only down side is you have to hand load.

7mm rem mag or 300 win mag, plenty of ammo in the shops if you don’t reload and easy to sell on if it’s not for you.
