I use a bit of 8mm mild steel for my rimfire gongs. 22LR barely takes the paint off. Magnum leaves a dent but not much. I have mine on a frame made of steel 10mm rod so I can push it into the ground or I can get a piece of wood, drill 10mm holes in the right place and set it into that on harder ground. There is another small gong behind the hole in the centre. This was an idea to see if it would work. The centre hanger is for the small "bull gong. With an air rifle hit on the big one you can tell easy enough. When an air rifle hits the smaller one it swings back and make a clang when it hits the front one again. With the 22 it does not work that way. Tee is enough energy it goes all newtons cradle and you cannot tell if it went through the hole or not. Either way it is a lot of fun
