    wind reading

    1ST of all i dont want this to turn in too a pissing contest

    how do you guys read the wind? mainly the speed
    took the mighty 308 out to 900meters today had a 6 oclock wind at firing position but looked to be a 3 to 9 wind at target that needed 2milrad to correct from, mananged to hit a few times but took a few rounds to get there
    any tips for a noob

    mite also help some others out there, spread the love

    There is many things one will learn over time about wind reading but use any and all resources to gain knowledge .
    I would ask you why do you think you will start a pissing contest with a thread like this, something all shooters should have idea about ??

    The basics are the basics are the basics -wind strength and directions - but as we know there are obstacles that can cause disturbances in the force while the projectile travels to its intended impact point .
    I think visual training aids are great to use and our member Norway has actually done some very good stuff for wind reading that is sensible amongst others that I will mention also -give me a minute and I will grab some stuff of the net for you to look at and chat more about this subject

    There is loads more to talk about but lets see this thread progress .I hope you don't just get the OL get" Norways CD "-no disrepect to Norway - and leave it at that LOl.

    yeah been doing a bit of looking myself, had a tricky range today that was over a gully so nothing realy to gauge the wind speed or direction

    I think putting a few wind flags out if you can would be a big help. Obviously you can't do that in the field, but while practicing it would help to show cause and effect of the wind and terrain, and yeah, practice practice. . .
