Yeah. Bloody funny. There are 20 targets on the Sparrowhawk Hunters Challenge at fairly modest ranges, in a fairly realistic "on the hill" positions, only your first shot counts. It humbles most shooters anything above 10 hits is pretty good and I doubt thats the average. Most of the targets could be bought within 200M with a tiny bit of stalking of only modest difficulty.
Eye opening... and I'm not talking aboutbthr scope cut during sighting in. :P

You could tell quite early on that this was going to be highly entertaining, and not from the OMG, this guy can shoot perspective.
Have been enjoying the Eric Cortina blackjack challenge, and the Texas Plinking 1000yd challenge. You can see technique and skill at work, and also the weekend warriors with all the gear, but no idea.
Visit public ranges and you are going to meet people like that.
Bought a 300remmag tikka with a funky scope from a shop that sells gear for 2 activities. Shop tells them its boresighted and all sweet. Does not even hit paper.
Or rings mounted on the piss and ring screw threads stripped, scope slipping...
Excellent watch. I worked in the US for 5 years as a hiring manager. This kind of oblivious overconfident self-assurance and willingness to put it out there and never back down in the face of real-life experience came up from time to time. Definitely a thing and a bit perplexing to a Kiwi then. Not so much now. I do believe the disease is spreading.

oh he had a flinch alright...play it back and you will see a LOT of those shots went off well before he was wanting them to.
one thing that really stood out for me...was at about 10 minute mark..targets under 200 yards with time limit...its hard to get proper range,then dope and dial....WTF???? seriously WTF???
the 2nd thing that stood out was the inconsistancy in how the rifle was held...if you could call it being held.
great watch and yip put on the spot it would be interesting challenge..unsuppressed/braked big .30calibre he sure would have had some interesting bruising.
Even in a nice comfy prone position with bags and bipod, 100 rounds in a range session with a bare 300 winmag in a t3, surely you are going to be wincing after every shot by the end?

I don’t care how big & strong you think you are, shooting 300WM in a light rifle accurately & repeatedly over a long series of shots prone was doomed to failure. What was surprising to me was the first miss came on 2nd shot, and it was sub 200?? I guess he’s one of those macho twats that subscribe to the “bigger is better” theory. Like the 300WM is some kind of magic death laser that whatever is shot at is going to fall over dead regardless. Hate to think what happened to barrel running 100 shots in a session like that ?!

A few years ago at my usual range, before new owners took over, it wasn't unusual to have a series of ( casual ? ) hunters arrive around this time of year, wanting to sight in a rifle before getting into the hills. If I was shooting I always moved aside and let them set about their task, often while keenly following the progress. With some the standard of ahooting was absolutely hopeless. Struggling to get shots on target at 50 yards ! A rare few needed to be gently shown the proper way to mount and hold a rifle. I just hoped these guys never found a deer to take shots at.Quote:
