1880 snider rifle and 1808 long tom 303

Hi guys, I have inherited my grandfathers 1880 snider rifle and his 1808 303 long tom. I would like to learn a bit about them and their potential history.
Just trying to work out how to post photos from my phone. Any info on these would be much appreciated.

A few things to get in the photo of the Snider for a start -

Photo of action obviously, showing lock up method, or lack of it
    Markings on the lock
Head of hammer flat or cupped
    Any NZ service stamps
Number of barrel bands and length of barrel

Did you mean 1908 long tom? That might help

Yeh I thought 1808 is a bit old, but it has HC8 then 1808 stamped into it as well a serial number PB3247. I know nothing about these old rifles so just going by what is stamped on it. I wish I could get these photos to load. If anyone was willing to give me their email address I'd be keen to send some photos just to get some info on the rifle.cheers

Be nice to have them up here for all to see. When you make a reply, hit go advanced, should be an icon for attachments (paperclip) and go from there

Welcome, those are very nice! The HC is actually HG it shows the rifle was issued to the home guard in ww2 8 is the district number for new plymouth, 1808 being its inventory number. The rifle looks complete in every detail, lobbing sight, cut off, dust cover. The 12728 is the original inventory number when it came here, the other little stamps are inspectors view, and partmarks, and the war dept broad arrow. 1901 could be the date of manufacture and there should be LE 1 possibly followed by a * or two to confirm the model. On the knoxform the little cutout in the topwood at the breech end there should also be an E for enfield rifling. Lucky you!

What's the barrel like? Where are you based, might be able to help with a couple of rounds of ammo? For the snider
