    Another Aussie Invader

Hi Everyone and Thanks to Mike Ryland for telling me about this forum.

Im Scott 32 from Western Australia

Looking at coming over the ditch as they say for a couple of weeks in August both my girlfriend and I are keen hunters and were considering bringing our rifles to get some hunting in while we were there. Now we haven't made firm plans on where exactly we would like to go or even if its worth bringing our own gear. At this stage we are leaning towards hiring a Motorhome and self driving to see the sights etc. So if there is any recommendations on general travel and freedom camping that would be great to hear about aswell.

As far as the hunting goes we had been looking at lodges and trips but the cost makes it very prohibitive and probably unrealistic for us. We are not looking for a free ride and would be happy to pay a reasonable amount to be shown around someones spot etc (ill even buy the beers for after) we would be keen to hunt something different to what we get locally which is mainly foxes, pigs, rabbits, kangaroos etc. Would also love to catch some famous NZ Trout aswell. More looking for a casual type hunt with mates rather than a commercial type activity if that makes sense.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions!
    Scott

Welcome Scott. Mucko is a good bugger so I am sure that the two cages he just rattled will produce some opportunities for you.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

    Welcome Scott.
You'll enjoy it over here, maybe not our August weather though!
When you do make more solid plans, let forum members know, as we'll have to help you out with the firearms storage.
A motor home won't be ok for NZ Police when they issue you with visitor's licenses. Okay when you are in the vehicle, but can't be left unattended.
Needs to be in a proper safe or wall mount in a building. Plenty of forum members to help there or ask nicely at local hunting and fishing shop in a town you are in.
    Welcome to Sako club.

Thanks for the replies so far. Yeah they dont mention that on any of their literature cheeky buggers. I was just going to put the rental place down as my address.

I would also be interested in renting a Hunting Hut or similar and DIYing if thats an option. I was leaning towards the South Island based on my own research but Im starting to wonder if its all just going to be to hard and If maybe I should just pack the fishing rods.

Best bet might just be to borrow a rifle and hunt under their licence. I'm sure there are a few forum members that would find a spare day or two to get out in the bush, Hills or snow.... That white stuff that comes from the sky anytime from now till christmas

I'd say a hunt and fish with the smurf and the rapist would be a good idea all in one spot

if you make it to Tauranga we can do a claybird shoot of sorts and we can blow the dust off a couple of boom sticks and try our luck in the Kaimai @Gibo if he can be prodded may be able to help find something, we can hit Rotorua lakes for deer or wallaby, i am no guide but happy to find the time for a walk.
