    Canadian in Wairarapa

New to the area and keen to get out for hunting and fishing. Looking for ideas of where to go for goats and deer. Would be great to meet some locals.

Welcome. There are a fair few members down your way. @Dundee, take this man for a trout.

The missus and I lived in Wellington but I always wanted to be in a smaller town and closer to the outdoors.

Better start exploring the Tararua ranges, there’s plenty to see there! Or out the other way to Tinui!!

Goats in Remutakas - take a walk from where the twin bridges are at the foot of the range on your side - the road that goes up to the pylons

Deer try reading the hunting spot book and looking about

Go to the last pylon on that service track and sit watching the cleared trees below. Mobs pop oitnof the Bush to munch and catch some rays. There is a lot of pellets under that pylon too so if you can sit and wait just out of view somewhere you should get lucky. You can always climb down into the Bush below that pylon too. It's a bit shitty but doable.
