New to the area and keen to get out for hunting and fishing. Looking for ideas of where to go for goats and deer. Would be great to meet some locals.

Welcome, what prompted the move here?
Welcome. There are a fair few members down your way. @Dundee, take this man for a trout.
Welcome and enjoy.
Welcome mate.
Welcome to the Forum @Canuck79
The missus and I lived in Wellington but I always wanted to be in a smaller town and closer to the outdoors.

Better start exploring the Tararua ranges, there’s plenty to see there! Or out the other way to Tinui!!
Welcome Canuck.
Welcome, the areas a great place for outdoor activities
Greetings
I'm a bit futher North @Canuck79 but go trout fishing daily and hunt in the Ruahine Ranges from the East side of Dannevirke.
Go to the last pylon on that service track and sit watching the cleared trees below. Mobs pop oitnof the Bush to munch and catch some rays. There is a lot of pellets under that pylon too so if you can sit and wait just out of view somewhere you should get lucky. You can always climb down into the Bush below that pylon too. It's a bit shitty but doable.

Theres a DOC block on the Wairarapa boundary that I haven't been too in ages, would be worth a look.
certainly try the haurangis,,whakatomo rd over into the tainui,,up the whakatomo ck,,heads of the pinnacles into the boomerang which is in the washpool but do take note of the lay of land in case you end up in the washpool rdend,,bit of a walk back to the pinnacles but all part of the game,,unfortunately now is the worst time to hunt dry bush but at least its all adding to your fitness level
Welcome, eh!
Thanks for all the info. Hopefully I can fill my freezer soon.
