    G'day from Penrith/Sydney

From all accounts I've heard NZ's an absolutely beautiful place to visit so, now that I'm semi-retired from teaching, a camper van trip's hopefully not too far off. I've been a keen recreational hunter for decades - rabbits with my vintage '56 Brno Model 2 and, since '05, larger game like feral cats, foxes, 'tagged' Eastern Grey roos, goats and pigs with my '78 .243 Win Browning B78 High Wall falling block single shot rifle. I dearly cherish quality time in the bush - camping, bushwalking & hunting.

Come on over and do something about all your possums.

Great hunting over here. No nasty spiders or snakes to worry about, just the weather changes

Rushy, your Rule No. 4 clearly stands out regarding Sako75's reference to possums, as per the following account - whilst out spotlighting on a mate's farm I had no sooner cleanly dispatched a fox with his old Winchester 22-250 when I spotted what we all thought to be a mongrel feral cat off in the distance near the base of some gum trees. Upon inspection we were somewhat dismayed to note that it was a brush-tailed possum.

I assume that, because wallabies and possums are introduced species, they're pretty much on the open shooting menu in NZ !? In contrast, here in NSW you need to be licensed and issued with a set number of tags for culling specified roo species, by the Office of Environment & Heritage

Apologies BRNO, not only are we free to shoot wallabies and possums but we take cheap shots at Aussies too.
There is quite a bit of money to be made on possum fur if you put the time into it. I enjoy my home comforts (wife) too much to spend days/weeks knocking possums on the head

    Are you a Panthers supporter?

Neckshot, talk about a small world.....Glenmore Park was basically bush when we bought in nearby Jamisontown back in '88 !

My daughter-in-law's originally from Dunedin. I figure her folks were set on making their own All Blacks team except that, following 5 strapping sons, she popped out ! Hence they crossed the ditch, arguably because if you can't beat them, then join them !!

Sako75, no, I'm not an avid Panther's supporter. I also truly enjoy my home comforts but I'd go nuts if I couldn't indulge in some regular quality time in the outdoors - something that I've favoured since growing up in PNG.

We certainly enjoyed an idyllic lifestyle back home in PNG. Talk about some absolutely beautiful countryside. Regrettably, the country's arguably pretty much gone down hill since gaining Independence in '75, particularly where I was born and raised, namely, Port Moresby.

The recent bush fires up in the nearby Blue Mountains really have been notably destructive. In fact, the associated smoky haze still continues to linger. Your old watering hole down by the Nepean River has yet to be re-opened. What's with you moving to NZ ?
