Agree with 300CALMAN that Deerstalkers are a good place to start. Most clubs have a target shooting program of some sort that you can use hunting type rifles in. Deerstalkers can be a bit standoffish so if this happens don't be discouraged, Just persist. Have a check in the internet to see what is around in your area. Also agree with mimms that a .22 RF is a good start, cheap kit and cheap ammo lets you shoot a lot for not much. This lets you master the basics before you enter the rather more complex center fire domain.
