    Greetings

    G’day

Time to join the action rather than browse around the edges. Am a 35yr experienced hunter now living in NE Waikato, have been around a bit with work and hunting has been my life wherever I’ve lived in the world. And man have I met some cool people with shared interests and passions.

Red deer are my usual quarry, I share property in the Ruapehu District and we do very well down there. Lot of time is spent on neighbouring properties in the Central N Island and further afield on goat control duties, occasionally pigs. We have quite a lot of fallow too but tend to see them as decoration, and only take one now and then. We have deer locally too (Kaimais) but not so interested in them, they’re a bit runty round here.

More of a meat hunter than a trophy hunter, we protect the good stags on our block and only knock ‘em over when they’re too old and heavy.

I shoot with four centrefires depending on what’s what, my main meat deer rifle is a .243 Win, for heavier stags I use a .308 Win. I shoot a 6.5 Creedmoor varmint rifle for longer range goats and deer, and a .223 varmint rifle for small game, goats and occasional head shooting when culling spikers.

Am quite active on a couple of other forums in other countries where I know folk I worked and hunted with there.

Look forward to getting to know some of you fellas.
    All the best.

    Welcome Flyblown. Enjoy the place.

Thanks fellas. Probably worth pointing out (cos I’ve been asked this before) that our block borders DOC estate and all game is wild, with the exception of two introduced fallow bucks a few years ago. Luckily we don’t get too badly affected when you-know-who pays the neighbouring bush a visit in the helicopter with the poison bucket.
