    Greetings from the USA

First, my sympathies to the people, and especially the gun owners of New Zealand. I can't imagine what you are going through.

Second, I have a very hard time understanding the difference in thinking between gun owners in the USA and NZ. That is one of the reasons I joined your forum. As I'm sure you know, a large percentage of gun owners in the USA would never tolerate what your government has done, and is continuing to do, to you. I'm hoping to understand why gun owners from NZ are willing to allow their government to subjugate them in the way they have already done, and are continuing to do.

Mostly, I intend to just read, but I may have a few questions from time to time. I'm certainly willing to answer questions if I can.

Thank you for allowing me to do this.

    I shoot trap
I hunt. I used to hunt all over the world but I am no longer a trophy hunter.
I spend considerable time on the range with both handguns and rifles.
I am a Charter Member of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association

I should add that both my wife and I are very active in 2nd Amendment activities and are life members of both national and state specific pro gun organizations fighting to retain what we consider our rights as citizens of the USA. I carry firearms and other weapons legally because of LEOSA, and my wife carries through a state issued concealed carry permit in the states that recognize the permit.

This week we will be at the National Rifle Association annual meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Welcome to socialism... "democracy"... elected autocracy... Whatever you want to call it... Where all you can do is choose who reams you.

NZ never had a revolutionary war. So NZ was never a newly emancipated country, with a set of leaders, fresh from conflict, who saw a need and felt motivated to enshrine the public's right to own firearms for fighting a hypothetical boogaloo. We separated from the British, peacefully, over time, and essentially just took a copy of their legal system. That legal system pre-dated firearms, so firearms aren't mentioned in its foundations. Because the RTBA wasn't expressed in it as a right, firearms ownership was always just waiting to be legislated down to a privilege. Which it eventually was. Privileges can be restricted more easily, and legally, than rights can. The same as Australia, Canada, and the UK itself.

"Why don't you refuse and rise up?"

Because nobody wants to get shot or go to prison over this. We are bent over the barrel. Can you imagine how futile it'd be for a few Chinese dudes to tell Xi Jinping they're not going to comply with the CCP?
