Hi All,
I finally got round to joining the forum, which I really should have done a long time ago... It pops up often enough in my google search results which should tell me something...
Anyway, about me:
I'm a middle aged dude, live in east Auckland with my family. I'm an engineer by day, so I think that I know everything.
I've been hunting and shooting after a fashion for a long time - used to shoot a lot of possums with a good friend when we were younger. Tried duck shooting (not really my cup of tea), and hunted the odd goat and rabbit. Spent a huge amount of time as a kid involved in scouting which developed a liking for getting lost in the bush, and as I've got older I still find it one of my favourite places to be.
Then life and kids and other things came along and I really fell away from it for a long time. In recent years my wife started pestering me to stop working so hard and get a hobby so I've been getting back into it, joined the Deerstalkers, done a bunch of load development and range shooting with the Auckland branch, and had some really nice hunts. I've been lucky enough to have some awesome mates around me who are supportive even when I stuff it up. Finally scored my first deer on a recent trip, which was a real buzz. Not to mention delicious...
I'm a bit budget constrained so my gear is a bit simplistic, but I'm working on it. I have a nice little 30-30 for bush hunting and I'm working on a do-it-all rig based on a 270WSM to replace the ancient .303 that I have been using. It's a poor workman who blames his tools, but I don't have the skill level yet to be able to compensate for sub-standard equipment, and the old .303 is a bit worn, as much as I love it...
I don't get anywhere near enough time to hunt, but have managed to get away to the lower Kaimai quite a few times, been generously shown around in Clements Mill Rd, and a few other places, and I have a notion of trying to get away up the back of Te Urewera for a look around some time.
So anyway, that's me. I'm not a massive forum addict so unlikely to be a prolific poster here, but I look forward to being part of the community.
Cheers
AJ
